Common questions
The hens live outdoors on grass in coops that are moved to a fresh patch every few days. They are shut in at night for safety and let out at first light. Come and see the pasture on any open day.
A hen on pasture lays fewer eggs than a hen in a cage, eats more feed because she is active, and needs more labor because the coop moves. The price is what it costs to raise a hen that way, plainly.
You choose a dozen or two a week and a pickup point, and we hold them for you. Pay by the month; pause when you travel.
Hatching runs from March to May. Reserve early; the popular breeds go first. Started pullets are available from early summer.
Pre-order a bird or a bundle for a processing date on the meat-birds page. Collect fresh that weekend or frozen after.
Open days a few times a season, and small groups by arrangement. Biosecurity means we ask visitors to stay on the paths and out of the coops.
